First apartment complex for people over 65 years of age with community spaces in the Alt Pirineu

The Germans Farrero residential complex in Rialp, in Pallars Sobirà, is a ten-story building for people over 65 with communal spaces. This equipment, unique in the Upper Pyrenees, has been built with the financial contribution of 700,000 euros from two neighbors of the town, the Farrero brothers, on municipal land. The City Council has contributed 200,000 euros to adapt the area

Thirteen years after the first conversations, between the City Council and the two neighbors, now deceased, the complex is now ready to receive the first residents.

Those in charge of managing this building are the social initiative cooperative Actua. The head of Actua Ponent Pirineu, Jordi Etxalar, describes the building as an intermediate space between a residence for the elderly and independent living.

The mayor of Rialp, Gerard Sabarich, has explained that the path to having the equipment ready has not been easy given that there are very few equipment with these characteristics; apartments intended only for people over sixty-five years of age.

Sabarich has said that this was one of the few conditions that the Farrero brothers set when defining the complex and as mayor "he had to comply with their will."

Thirteen years have passed since the first conversations between the City Council and the Farrero brothers to define the investment of 700,000 euros that they wanted to leave in the town of Rialp.

Etxalar has specified that the regions of the Pyrenees already have many residences for the elderly that provide a very important service, but that a complex of apartments only for those over sixty-five years of age does not exist and will provide a "very necessary" service. In this area there are towns that are sparsely populated and without services.

The complex has ten rental apartments, with capacity for one or two people, and community spaces where all residents can carry out joint activities.

Leisure activities will be defined based on the needs of the users. The rent for the apartment is 500 euros per month plus community fees.
