Fewer signs of drought in the Baells

If there has been (and is) an indicator of the water level of the Baells reservoir and, at the same time, of the degree of drought and how it has evolved, those are the marks on the pillars of the bridge.

In these photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, you can see how the water has been gaining ground and is already covering the supports of this infrastructure that allows it to cross the swamp.

Three months ago, the marks on the pillars were much lower, when the reservoir was at 26%, while currently it is stabilized at 35% after the last rains. A year ago it was at 49%.

The marks on the edge of the swamp have also decreased compared to spring. The objective of this Berguedà reservoir is to regulate the upper basin of the Llobregat river, supply water to the metropolitan area of Barcelona and produce hydroelectric energy.

One of the elements that stands out in the landscape is the monastery of Sant Salvador de la Vedella. Founded in the year 830 by the monks of San Saturnino de Tavèrnoles, it is the only building that remains standing from the old town flooded in the construction of the reservoir.
