Felipe and Letizia wear the red scarf in Pamplona

Two months after the Sanfermines, the King and Queen have shown their affection with the citizens of Pamplona by wearing the red scarf around their necks that identifies the festivities and the city. Felipe and Letizia were in the Navarrese capital this Friday to inaugurate the commemorative events of the VI Centenary of the Privilege of the Union, by which the three towns of the city were united into a single entity.

The Kings have begun their visit, amidst a large security device, deployed in the old town, visiting the mausoleum of Carlos III and Leonor de Trastámara in the cathedral of Santa María la Real. They were accompanied by the acting Minister of Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, and there they were received by the mayor of Pamplona, Cristina Ibarrola, and the president of Navarra, María Chivite. At the exit of the cathedral, a group of children gave the Kings two red scarves, typical of the Sanfermines, with their respective names embroidered next to the city's coat of arms. Letizia did not hesitate and she put it around her neck, and then helped the King do the same.

The presence of the King and Queen in Pamplona corresponds to the invitation extended by the mayoress, the regionalist Cristina Ibarrola, which has not been compared by the councilors of EH Bildu, Contigo Zurekin and Geroa Bai, who have not participated in the act that has taken place in the town hall where the institutional event commemorating the Privilege of the Union was held.

Upon their arrival at both the cathedral square and the town hall square, and throughout the tour of the medieval market of Tres Burgos, the Kings approached to greet the people who were waiting for them and received them with applause. and shouts like "handsome", "long live the kings" or "long live Spain". After the event inside the town hall, the Kings went out to the balcony of the building from where the famous chupinazo that precedes the San Fermín festivities is fired every July 6.

The Privilege of the Union is the treaty by which the three boroughs of the city in the Middle Ages, the City of Navarerría, the Burgo de San Cernin and the Population of San Nicolás, were united in a single entity, after having maintained strong disputes that included armed confrontations. King Carlos III the Noble on September 8, 1423 granted what would be the founding charter of the modern city, the genesis of the current Pamplona.
