Felipe and Letizia visit Queen Sofía in the hospital

King Felipe and Letizia, recently landed from Las Palmas where they attended an official event this Thursday, went directly to the Ruber Internacional clinic in Madrid to visit Queen Sofia who has been hospitalized since Tuesday night due to to a urinary infection. After spending almost an hour inside the medical center, the King, through the car window, said that his mother is fine and "wanting to go out", and responded with "I don't know exactly, with calm" to the question of when he was expected to be discharged.

Doctors are keeping the King's mother under observation until the required 48 hours without fever are met, so, if complications do not occur, she is expected to be discharged this weekend.

The King, who was with his mother at the time of admission and returned to visit her on Wednesday afternoon, returned to the hospital, this time accompanied by Queen Letizia, around 7:30 in the afternoon. Infanta Elena also visited her mother on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kings had flown early in the morning to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where this morning they presented the National Design and Innovation awards. In the Canary Islands they have starred in some anecdotes with a group of children who were waiting for them at the exit of the auditorium where the awards were presented. A boy pinched the King's hand to check if he was real.

For her visit to Las Palmas, Queen Letizia has debuted a coral-colored jacket suit from the Hugo Boss brand, the same one in which she appeared upon her arrival at the hospital to visit Queen Sofia.

After the meal, the Kings returned to Madrid and from the Torrejón base, where the official plane landed, Felipe, driving the car, and Letizia went to the hospital.

The King's mother, 85 years old, has always enjoyed good health as she herself has acknowledged on several occasions; In her medical history, in addition to her three births, there are only a few episodes of flu and covid. A few years ago she underwent surgery for bunions on both feet, in two different interventions, but she is not known to have any other pathology.

Queen Sofía appeared for the last time in public this Monday, in the company of King Juan Carlos, at the funeral of her nephew Fernando Gómez-Acebo, which took place in the military cathedral of Madrid. On Saturday she also attended the wedding banquet of the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and Teresa Urquijo, which took place on a farm in Colmenar Viejo, owned by the bride's maternal grandparents. During Holy Week, the King's mother, in addition to attending the Holy Monday concert that took place in the cathedral of Palma, traveled to Malaga to attend the procession of the Christ of the Good Death and, the following day, Good Friday, He was also in the Cristo de los Alabarderos, in Madrid.

Queen Sofía has postponed her trip to Huesca, scheduled for this Friday, to Huesca to learn about the reality of the Food Bank of the Aragonese city and help, with her presence, to promote donations. Through the Queen Sofía Foundation, the King's mother, she actively collaborates with that organization and has visited different headquarters in various places in Spain where the first needs of vulnerable people or people at risk of social exclusion are attended to.
