Kings Felipe and Letizia have congratulated Federico and María, after the proclamation of the former as the new king of Denmark. The Kings have sent a letter to the new monarch and his wife in which they express "the greatest personal affection" and "the best wishes for the people of Denmark." Felipe and Letizia made their first state visit to Denmark last November, a stay that coincided with the publication in the magazine Lecturas of some photographs in which the then crown prince appeared, in Madrid, together with the socialite Genoveva Casanova.
After the replacement of the throne of Denmark became effective, the Royal House has made public, through its X account, the content of the letter along with a photograph captured during the gala dinner that Queen Margaret offered to the Kings in Christiansborg Palace. The text of the letter sent by Felipe and Letizia to their Danish counterparts says "Our congratulations on the beginning of your Reign, with the greatest personal affection and best wishes for the people of Denmark"
The Spanish and Danish royal houses are united by ties of kinship that date back to their common ancestors but, today, they are united by their family relationship with the Greek royal family. The late King Constantine of Greece, brother of Queen Sophia, was married to Anna Maria, the little sister of Queen Margaret: Princes Alexia, Paul, Nicholas, Theodora and Philippos of Greece are also first cousins of both Frederick of Denmark and by Felipe de Borbón.
