Feijóo seeks to snatch a million votes from the PSOE to govern solo

The PP is not satisfied with winning the next general elections. The objective that the popular leadership has set itself is to snatch a million votes from the PSOE, because according to the calculations they make on Calle Génova, with that difference, Alberto Núñez Feijóo would be in a position to govern alone. In addition, all the surveys, except the CIS, give them as a winner. For this reason, the leadership of the conservative formation has set that goal in the general campaign, which will arrive at the end of the year. The municipal and regional elections on May 28 will come first, which will be a first indication.

In the popular leadership they do not consider this objective an "unattainable dream". According to training sources and the data they handle, already in September, 600,000 voters who voted for the PSOE and Pedro Sánchez in 2019 stated in the polls that they would opt for the PP and for Alberto Núñez Feijóo as president of the Government. To this day, that figure, of socialist voters who would lean towards the PP, has already exceeded 750,000 people, according to the sources consulted.

The consequences of the law of only yes is yes, in addition to the repeal of sedition and the reform of embezzlement, have been, in the opinion of the popular, the main reasons that lead former socialist voters to look at the PP. In addition, the damage that the scandal of the Mediator case may cause the PSOE has yet to be counted, and the fact that one of its deputies, Juan Bernardo Fuentes, already dismissed, participated in parties with prostitutes where drugs were consumed, in an image , underline the popular ones, which is reminiscent of that of the former director general of the Civil Guard Luis Roldán, once his corruption was known.

If Feijóo manages to snatch that million voters from the PSOE, "which was impossible", that the PP does not need Vox to govern "it would be possible", they point out from Genoa. According to the calculations of the popular leadership, the transfer that has occurred to date is 12% of the voters, and it would be a matter of getting that percentage to reach 15% of socialist voters in 2019. That percentage, translated into seats , would put the PP between 40 and 50 seats above the PSOE. With that figure, they understand, the debate would no longer be whether Sánchez or Feijóo is elected president, but whether the president of the PP can govern alone – as he wants – or with Vox.

For the PP, the strategy designed by Sánchez to come back in the polls, which involved ending controversial measures in December, such as the reform of the Penal Code, and recovering steam with social measures, has come up against reality. The popular believe that it has been overshadowed by the rise in inflation in February, the rise in unemployment, the consequences of the law of only yes is yes, and the scandal of the trains that did not fit in the tunnels in Cantabria. A chain of events to which the alleged corruption of the Mediator case has been added at the last minute.

"You vote in 85 days and the ability to go back is losing," they stress in Genoa. But also, they remember in the PP, they still have the capacity to win votes to their right, in the Vox fishing ground, since there is little margin of the Ciudadanos electorate. In Vox, according to the data controlled by Genoa, there is already a percentage close to 15% of voters who have decided to vote for the PP to evict Sánchez de la Moncloa.

Basically, the sources summarize, it is about the union of PSOE, Unidas Podemos and Más Madrid not exceeding in votes or seats those that the PP can obtain alone. With that premise, Feijóo would have a margin of play, they maintain.
