'Fauda' producer dies in Gaza war

A Fauda producer, Matan Meir, has died in the war between Israel and Hamas. He belonged to the 511 brigade of the 697 battalion of the Israeli armed forces and, while the details are unknown, it has been explained to the public that he died in Gaza.

“We are absolutely devastated to report that one of our family members in Fauda, Matan Meir, has been murdered in Gaza. Matan was an integral part of the team during the four seasons of Fauda,” they reported from the official account of the series produced by the Israeli channel Yes Oh and which became a global success thanks to its impact on the Netflix catalog.

“The entire cast and crew are completely devastated by this tragic loss. We would like to convey our condolences to Matan's family and his friends. May his soul rest in peace,” they wanted to convey to their loved ones.

Fauda precisely became topical after the attack orchestrated by Hamas and carried out on October 7, which increased military pressure on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli army. The series, created by Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, focuses on the activity of the special forces after the reinstatement of Doron (Lior Raz himself) upon discovering that one of the Hamas leaders, who was believed dead, is actually still alive. alive after having masterminded a massacre of more than 300 people.

The most pro-Palestinian sectors denounce that Fauda, in reality, only tells the Israeli version of the conflict while another sector of critics defends its ability to convey the complexity and tension of one of the hottest points in international politics. Issacharoff and Raz also have experience: the former is a political analyst and both served together in the Duvdevan Unit of the Israel Defense Forces.

In the October days that followed the attack, Lior Raz also showed videos of himself among the team of volunteers to help families in the bombed city of Sderot.

Before, on his networks, he had shared a statement: “Our country has been attacked by a cruel enemy who has killed children, women and men in cold blood in their beds. They have kidnapped babies, mothers and elderly people (...). We Israelis are once again in a difficult time. We know how to fight for our lives and we will never abandon a Jewish child. (...) We ask you: please remember this day later during the war. Remember who started the massacre. Hamas is an organization that wants to destroy the Jews and that does not want to talk about peace under any conditions.”
