'Everything at once everywhere', the most awarded film before the Oscars

The film All at once everywhere has been the great winner of the independent film Spirit Awards gala by winning all the categories in which it was nominated in a ceremony in which it surpassed the film Tár, its rival in the prelude to the Oscars.

The film from the duo known as The Daniels - Daniel Kwan and Daniel Sheinert - which portrays the transformation from a troubled family mother to a multiverse-spanning heroine, continues its path as an awards season darling.

The film triumphed in all seven categories in which it competed: best film, best performance, best secondary performance, best breakthrough performance, best editing, best script and best direction.

"This is too much thanks to all those who make weird independent movies, those movies change my life, thanks to the funders for believing in these crazy movies," Scheinert said as he accepted the top award of the evening.

Known as "the indie Oscars," the Spirit only recognizes films with a budget of less than $30 million, a low figure by Hollywood studio standards.

In addition, they must have also been programmed at at least one independent film festival such as Sundance, Tribeca, Toronto or New Directors/New Films, to name a few.

This was the first edition in which the awards were held with gender-neutral performance categories and actress Michelle Yeoh was the winner among the ten artists nominated for best performance.

The also winner of the Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award faced Cate Blanchett (Tár), Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie), Jeremy Pope (The Inspection) and Paul Mescal (Aftersun), among other performers.

"I appreciate this award from the bottom of my heart, none of us would be here without our heroes, and ours was A24 (the production house), who believed in the Daniels' masterpiece," Yeoh said.

The victory of the Kwan and Scheinert film in these awards and the best film recognition that it has received in other ceremonies, strengthen the predictions of its triumph at the Oscars.

And an indication of this is that in the past the films Nomadland, Birdman and Moonlight triumphed at this gala before winning the golden statuette for best film at the Hollywood Academy ceremony, next to take place on March 12.

Of the seven awards that the film, also nominated for an Oscar Tár, aspired to, in which Todd Field portrayed a case of abuse of power perpetuated by an orchestra conductor, only Florian Hoffmeister won the award for best photography.

Also, Sarah Polley's film Ellas hablando received the Robert Altman award, and in their speech the cast highlighted how exciting it was to make a film full of "wonderful women."

Charlotte Wells' film Aftersun, produced by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins, won the award for Best First Feature and in the documentary field, All The Beauty And the Bloodshed beat out the rest, also advancing in her career for the Oscar.

The award for best international film went to Saim Sadiq's Pakistani film Joyland, and the award for best first feature screenplay went to John Patton Ford's Emily the Criminal.

This is the third edition that the independent awards recognize television productions and on this occasion, it was the series The Bear, with two awards, and Abbott Elementary, with one, that stood out among their opponents.

The event was presented by the comedian Hasan Minhaj, who together with the actress Aubrey Plaza was in charge of telling the most acid jokes of the ceremony that was not televised and was only broadcast on the YouTube platform.
