The Etna volcano, considered one of the most active in the world, has once again erupted on the Italian island of Sicily, with an activity that has forced the operations of the nearby Catania airport to be temporarily paralyzed this Monday morning.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) of Italy has reported the start of lava emission from the crater on Sunday night, interrupted around 3:20 p.m. on Monday, and the subsequent output of ash. Smoke from this eruption has dispersed in a southerly direction.

The company responsible for the Vincenzo Bellini aerodrome has announced in a statement the cancellation of both takeoffs and landings and has asked all passengers to contact their airline before going to the facilities.

Although at first it had established 1:00 p.m. as the preliminary reopening time, in a second message posted on social networks it has extended the deadline to 8:00 p.m., in anticipation that the minimum environmental conditions to be able to operate again do not exist.
