Endesa's profit increases by 20% to 879 million euros

Endesa earned 879 million euros during the first half of 2023, 20% more than in the same period of the previous year, according to information deposited this Wednesday with the National Securities Market Commission CNMV

In its presentation of results, the company highlights the good evolution of the business in a context of normalization in which gas prices in international markets fell by 57% and those of electricity in the Spanish wholesale market fell by 57%.

Thus, the operating result before taxes (Ebitda) rose 27% to 2,476 million euros. The company's net debt has fallen by 3% to 10.6 million euros, despite the fact that investments increased by 12% to 1,043 million euros.

"This evolution supports the company's confidence in achieving the economic-financial objectives for the year as a whole: ebitda of between 4,400 and 4,700 million and net ordinary income of between 1,400 and 1,500 million, as well as a dividend per share of around 1 euro.", explains Endesa in the note issued.

Growth is driven by all of the company's Generation and Commercialization segments, highlighting the 473 million contributed by the electricity, gas and customer service supply business, 214 million in conventional generation, and another 180 million from the renewable activity .

Endesa closed June with 10.5 million electricity customers in Spain, the same figure as at the end of the first half of the previous year. During the first six months of 2023, Endesa increased its customer base in the free market by 300,000, which now stands at 6.9 million. While those in the regulated market fell by 5%, to 3.7 million in the regulated market (5% less). The percentage of electricity sales at a fixed price covered with emission-free production reaches 76%.

In terms of electric mobility, it maintains the leadership in Spain in the network of charging points with 16,600 at the end of the semester, 5,500 more than a year earlier.

The company has already sold 100% of its own electricity production by 2023 and 89% by 2024, in both cases at a price of 65 euros/MWh, complying with current regulations.

In the gas business, the total volume sold fell slightly by 5% to 49 TWh, due to lower consumption in combined cycles and by customers (industrial and domestic). The company has already sold 90% of the gas it buys by 2023 and 65% by 2024. The customer base remains stable at 1.8 million.
