Elliot Page reveals that he has not spoken to his father in years due to his transphobic comments

After many years of unhappiness, Elliot Page can finally say that he is happy. Two years after he revealed that he was a trans man, the actor has received all kinds of comments about it. Many of them are transphobic, but more supportive, thanking him for putting a face to a community that to this day is still the object of discrimination, abuse and humiliation.

Since his confession, Elliot Page has made it his mission to be the voice of those in the same situation. The interpreter has given several interviews to explain what he is experiencing and how he has reached the moment in which he finally recognizes himself, giving him the catharsis that he has been waiting for since the "total hell" of puberty. .

A dysphoria -of gender, that feeling of discomfort or anguish that people whose gender identity differs from their biological sex can feel- that lived in the family home, but in the worst of ways, since they did not have the support of their parents .

This has been revealed in his memoirs, Pageboy, which comes out precisely this week, where he tells how his parents had and still have serious problems accepting what was happening. What's more, the protagonist of movies like Juno reveals that he hasn't spoken to his father for more than five years, after he positioned himself with transphobic videos directed at his son.

According to the actor, he revealed to his parents that he was homosexual in 2014, and it was something that they did not take too well, due to their deep religious beliefs. His mother, the daughter of a religious man, even told him that homosexuality "did not exist." Luckily, his mother came to her senses when she saw how happy her son was after her transition, coming to accept everything that happened.

His father, on the other hand, has grown up. When he began his transition, he sided with critics, displaying behaviors of clear rejection towards his son.

"Jordan Peterson - a well-known ultra-conservative psychologist - made a horrible tweet about me, published a video, looking threateningly at the camera, and my father "liked it", says the actor, for whom it marked an end to their relationship. Through her memoirs, Page says she doesn't think she can ever reconnect with her father.

In 2022, Peterson called the actor by his former name, Ellen, and used female pronouns to refer to him, which violates the site's rules against "hateful conduct against trans people," so the post was removed and his account it was suspended, almost a week later.

A behavior that, unfortunately, is applauded by a large part of the American citizenry, who believe that a person's gender cannot be changed.

The vast majority of Republicans and people with conservative thinking believe that gender is determined by the sex assigned at birth, compared to the rest of the population, with a more liberal and Democratic ideology, which makes it very difficult to establish legislation to protect the rights of transgender people, discriminated against in social and labor spheres.
