Electric boats take interest in a Boat Show that is already thinking about the America's Cup

There is just one year left until the waters of Barcelona host one of the most important nautical competitions in the world, the Copa América. And as it could not be otherwise, the Barcelona International Boat Show, as a benchmark in the sector, could not be left out of an event of this magnitude. For this reason, this year's edition - which opened yesterday - will take place in a very special environment, in which the spirit of the regatta will predominate, both in its activities and stands and in the exhibitors and experiences that will be carried out at its venue. around.

However, the event does not leave aside the innovation that the sector is experiencing and that it has always protected since its inception. For this reason, in this 2023 edition, electric motor boats will have a special mention, as a firm commitment to the future. From a large catamaran to smaller boats, including an electrified sailboat.

As for the Copa América, the boats that can be seen at the event will do so together with the nautical bases of the six teams that will participate in the thirty-seventh edition of the prestigious international competition, in a space located in Port Vell itself. . An unbeatable prop that will inevitably transport us to the most competitive environment of the largest international sailing event.

With this edition, the Boat Show aims to bring the America's Cup Experience closer also in an educational way, so the event will have an official immersive exhibition where, through large screens, models, photographs and the reproduction of the emblematic trophy, it will be given to know the journey of this competition that already has 173 years of history.

And if all this were not enough, the show will offer at the stands of the Port of Barcelona, Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica and Port Olímpic an extensive program of events, conferences and talks throughout the five days of the Boat Show. With the purpose of putting the sailing championship in the center of attention, along with the promotion of sustainability, the blue economy and inclusivity.

But as it could not be otherwise, the event does not renounce its essence and, once again, it will receive the trust of the main national and international brands with the latest models of boats that are committed to quality, innovation and sustainability. Which will translate into 160 boats on the water and 240 exhibitors.

Among the boats that will occupy the docks of La Fusta, España and Marina Port Vell, there are twenty catamarans, 17 boats candidates for European Boat of the Year, two fully electric boats, a boat for diving or fishing that can be transported by car , as well as various submersible jet skis.

Regarding the electrical system, the show exhibits two different boat models that demonstrate how green, sustainable and clean energy is making its way into the world of yachting. The Catalan company Volta markets a catamaran capable of sailing from Palma to Barcelona without consuming a single drop of diesel fuel. A total of 110 nautical miles traveled thanks to its electrical capacity. In addition, solar panels installed on the roof of the boat help charge the catamaran and provide the energy necessary to meet the lighting, cooling and electrical consumption on board.

In the same way, a sailboat at the Boat Show renounces combustion engines to make way for an electrical system that does not make noise and does not pollute the water through which it sails. A boat that has self-generation when sailing, since at that moment, with the rotation of the propeller, energy is created. For Jordi Piqué, head of the Noster company, this type of boat is available through the pay-per-use management system. Something that helps the preservation of the boats and the spirit of relevance that users adopt.

Given a business card of this type, it is not surprising that the organization of the event shows its satisfaction and predicts the good reception that this year's edition will have among the visiting public. For the director of the Boat Show, Josep Antoni Llopart, “the show will once again put Barcelona at the center of European yachting, bringing together the best brands, the latest innovations and trends and attracting international buyers and fans to the city.”

For Luis Conde, president of the Barcelona International Boat Show, the fair obtains the best of its reputations, being a reference for those people who want to buy a boat. "Innovation is personified in the Show when all the advances and improvements that technology has undergone in the sector are reflected in it," adds the president.
