El ‘Old Hollywood’ invade Cannes

The French Riviera hosts one of the most media and sophisticated annual red carpets in the world. The Cannes Film Festival brings together celebrities of all kinds at its premieres, from renowned film directors with their leading stars to models and, for a few years now, influencers who have managed to become benchmarks of style beyond the screen.

In this 76th edition of the event, the red carpet has served until now –it will continue until next Saturday– as a catwalk for original haute couture designs that bring together the great trends of the season in their clothing. Bright colors have dyed the most spectacular outfits of this edition, full of openings that confirm, for yet another year, the predilection of the luxury industry for cut-out patterns and asymmetries, pompous details such as feathers, kilometric tulle trains and the volume to blur the figure. The sophistication of Old Hollywood has won the game over futuristic patterns, and classic fabrics, such as satin or tulle, recover their place before the most eccentric and extreme fabrics.

Thus, since last Tuesday, May 16, actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman and Uma Thurman, all dressed in Dior, Elle Fanning, in an Alexander McQueen or an impressive Viola Davis, with a cape, stood out for their haute couture choices. ostrich signed by Valentino. Among them, Spanish film faces such as Amaia Salamanca, Manu Ríos or Ester Expósito also stood out, who knew how to dress for the occasion with suits that were characterized as being more austere, but just as sophisticated.

Beyond the movie stars, the models played a crucial role in elevating this festival prelude. Irina Shayk, Adriana Lima, Naomi Campbell and Karlie Kloss –who recently announced her pregnancy on another big red carpet, the Met Gala– shone with imperial bets, signed by Armani Privé, Tamara Ralph, Valentino and Dior, respectively.

In the musical field, it was the British Dua Lipa who captured all the attention of the cameras by using her time on the red carpet to introduce her boyfriend Romain Gavras, with whom she has been in a relationship since April. She did it with a satin black design and her hair in a high bun that evoked the aesthetic that exalted figures like Audrey Hepburn in the golden age of Hollywood.
