DNA confirms that the body walled up in a Torremolinos apartment is that of Sibora Gagani

DNA tests confirm that the body found behind a double wall in an apartment in Torremolinos (Málaga) corresponds to Sibora Gagani, the young Italian-Albanian woman who disappeared in 2014 after breaking off her relationship with Marco R., a 45-year-old Italian citizen who is in prison accused of stabbing another ex-partner to death.

The Police have compared the DNA of Sibora's mother, who lives in Italy, with the samples taken from the body located in the house, and the results officially confirm that the deceased is Sibora Gagani, sources close to the investigation have told EFE.

The judicial authorities have communicated the results to the family, who will now be able to start the efforts to repatriate the body.

Sibora's remains have remained hidden for nine years behind a wall in the Torremolinos apartment that he shared with Marco R., the main suspect in the crime.

The young woman broke up with Marco R. in 2014 and disappeared shortly after. Her family was certain that she had been murdered after Marco R. was arrested on May 17 in Torremolinos for the murder of Paula, with whom she had just broken off a sentimental relationship.

It was the suspect himself who spontaneously told the agents who were guarding him after his arrest that Gagani "was buried in the attic" where he lived with her, although he later did not confirm it in the presence of a lawyer or in court.

From that moment on, National Police agents focused the investigation on the apartment in the El Calvario neighborhood, where up to four searches were carried out using hydrometers, micro cameras and even X-rays.

The body was hidden behind a double partition that Marco R. had erected in a corner of the room and it was perfectly made, so it was almost impossible to know that it was not a wall from the original construction.

The Investigation Court number 3 of Torremolinos has taken charge of the investigation of this crime, which remains open and under summary secrecy.
