Defense coordinates the shipment to Ukraine of 49 electric generators donated by companies

The Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, says that when she visited Odesa on December 1, one of the priorities that the Ukrainian authorities conveyed to her was the need to have electric generators to alleviate the lack of light in schools, hospitals and residences in a city in which at 3:00 p.m. it is already getting dark. As a personal effort of hers, upon her arrival in Spain, the minister personally telephoned several companies -some had previously collaborated with the shipment of humanitarian material to Ukraine- to convey the new request to them. Fifteen days later, a Spanish convoy with 49 devices of this type will leave for the country at war to counter Putin's attacks against electrical installations whose objective, according to Robles, is to "undermine the morale of citizens."

The first two of the electric generators will go, at the Spanish request, precisely to Odesa, "a totally dark city", as described by the Defense Minister on Tuesday morning, who has displaced some private companies in Arganda del Rey and Algete (Madrid), where the generator sets are prepared for urgent shipment. Due to their size, they will arrive by road in about four days in Poland. The humanitarian material distribution center is located there, which is later distributed throughout the country according to the Ukrainian Government's own needs.

Defense had already commanded eight electrical groups of this type offered by the Air and Space Army and by the Military Emergency Unit. However, it is the first time that the Ministry coordinates the contribution of humanitarian aid to Ukraine by companies in the civil sector. The first two generators have been donated by Repsol and Finanzauto.

The rest of the companies, one of these companies has donated 16 generator sets, prefer to remain anonymous. Ministerial sources assure that it has nothing to do with "the fear" of being singled out as politicians, institutions and companies were with the receipt of envelopes with pyrotechnic material after showing their support for Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion.

"The generosity of these companies in responding to the request for help from the Ministry of Defense quickly and with extraordinary sensitivity fills all Spaniards with pride," Robles commented before the business leaders. The minister also had words of recognition and praise for the components of the different teams of the Ministry and the Spanish Armed Forces that coordinate this important work of assistance and support for Ukraine.
