Díaz returns to his homeland with the mission of reviving Sumar's candidacy

Morning, afternoon and night. Yolanda Díaz arrived yesterday in Galicia, her homeland, where she began her political career, with the difficult mission of reviving Sumar's candidacy in the Galician elections.

Today he will star in three acts on both banks of the Vigo estuary, a natural reserve on the Galician left. In the morning in Cangas, at noon and in the afternoon in the city of Vigo. Last night he closed the day at the A Coruña Opera alongside Marta Lois, his candidate for the presidency of the Xunta. Today he will spend the whole day with her.

The challenge is considerable. At the moment, the known polls give, at best, a seat for the candidate in A Coruña, but it is by no means assured.

The problem that arises for Sumar, and in fact for all the formations on the left, is that the strength of the Galician Nationalist Bloc, converted into a catch-all party on the progressive side, is devouring the energies of its allies. So the Bloc is doing well, but its eventual allies, not so much. And if they fail, there will be no electoral overturn.

In the left bloc, furthermore, the Podemos candidacy led by Isabel Faraldo received a push yesterday from its former leader, Pablo Iglesias.

It would be the most normal thing if it weren't for the fact that before the campaign started, and when Sumar and Podemos were negotiating an integration that did not prosper, Iglesias suggested that the reasonable thing would be to leave all the space to the Galician Nationalist Bloc. Then, the bases decided, and agreed to appear with Faraldo at the front. From then until yesterday, there was always the question of where his political reference was. Yesterday the doubt was resolved. However, if Sumar's chances of obtaining representation are slim, Podemos's are substantially worse, according to all surveys.

Meanwhile, yesterday the Galician electoral carousel did not stop despite the bad weather. The PP candidate, Alfonso Rueda, held an event with the so-called returnees, citizens of other countries with Galician origins who have recently come to live in Galicia. We must not forget that there are nearly half a million people who could exercise their right to vote in these elections and who live outside Galicia. Some, many, have never even been to Spain, but they have nationality and, therefore, the right to vote according to the law.

In the field of mishaps, yesterday the Electoral Board opened a sanctioning file against the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, for an event held in Navantia de Ferrol in which he announced the acquisition of a new Navy ship. That happened in the pre-campaign and the PP denounced it.
