Dallas suffers major flooding after record rainfall

From historical. This is how the local media describe the rainfall that has been recorded in recent hours in Dallas, and which has caused significant flooding, collapsing several roads in the region and dragging the vehicles that were in its path.

In some areas in Dallas-Forth Worth, more than 10 inches (25.4 centimeters) of rain were recorded in 24 hours, which is considered an event that happens once in a thousand years, according to local media on Monday.

The period between August 21 and 22 is the second with the highest rainfall in 24 hours in history, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). This geographical point is also close to breaking the record for the month of August with the greatest rainfall ever recorded, with a total of 10.08 inches (25.6 centimeters), according to meteorological authorities.

Several videos shared on social networks show avenues turned into rivers by the rain, vehicles submerged in water and even people who had to swim to get out of their cars, almost completely covered by the flood.

The heavy rains come after a dry season that affected much of North Texas in recent months. “Although these rains are going to provide relief (from the drought), no precipitation is expected for the rest of the week,” reported the NWS.

Texas is the latest US state to experience flooding. Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky have also been affected by heavy rain in recent weeks. Rainfall in the latter state left more than 30 dead.
