Cloud castles in the Solsonès

The clouds and the sky are the protagonists in these photographs taken in the Solsonès for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

Sometimes even the most beautiful and spectacular landscapes are overshadowed by the unleashed force of cloud castles or impossibly black and ominous skies.

A cloud is formed by the accumulation of ice crystals and/or microscopic water droplets suspended in the atmosphere, as a result of the condensation of water vapor.

We generally see them white, but it can darken as its optical thickness increases, until it becomes a dark gray almost black, as we can also see in these snapshots.

Clouds have a great influence on the climate system, since they play a fundamental role in the water cycle, the regulation of the average temperature of the planet or the distribution of solar energy.
