Clash between PP and Vox over the forgiveness of the historical debt to the Valencian Community

The protest speech and the need for forgiveness of the historic debt that drags on after years of underfinancing has fractured the discourse of PP and Vox. That those from Abascal did not view this regional reduction favorably - the Madrid president Isabel Díaz Ayuso has also raised objections - was already intuited. However, Vox had tried to play tricks in the Valencian Community and, until now, the disagreements had not been expressed.

However, on Monday afternoon, the far-right party presented an amendment to a Non-Law Proposal of the PP through the entry register of Les Corts. In it, the popular ones asked that the Ministry of Finance respond to the allegations presented by the autonomies to the 'skeleton' of the financing system presented by Minister Montero in 2021; a leveling fund to compensate "the annual imbalance suffered by the Valencian Community due to the paralysis of a new model"; and address the region's historic debt.

Precisely this last point, which required "articulating mechanisms for returning to the Community the amounts assumed for the historical debt", was the one that Vox wanted to be eliminated from the proposal of its fellow Government members.

Despite this, the PP did not give in and rejected Vox's amendment. Their deputy on the Finance Commission who defended the text, María Gómez, made it clear that the popular parties would not renounce any of the points that the Platform for a Just Finançament has defended these days.

In fact, the PP rejected the proposal of its partners in the vote, but did admit the changes introduced by Compromís. The Valencians asked to add to the PP's PNL the need to convene the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council to accelerate the debate, as well as guarantee investments in the General State Budgets in accordance with the population.

These contributions were admitted by the PP, which carried out its proposal with the support of the opposition and the abstention of Compromís.

PSPV deputy José Muñoz warned before the vote of the seriousness of the two partners not agreeing on a "key" and "transcendental" issue for the Valencian Community. Muñoz assured that this situation weakens the Consell's speech in the face of future negotiations.

Even more so when the Vox deputy Teresa Ramínez attacked the foundations of the Valencian claim, denying the very existence of underfinancing and identifying the high debt with poor management: "We do not buy the idea of forgiving the debt to cover up the bad management," she assured. Ramirez.

Despite this, at the Board of Trustees and asked about the evident differences between the members, the spokesperson for the popular group, Miguel Barrachina, tried to make light of the matter and assured that the Consell's position on financing is the one set by the president. Carlos Mazón.

The Vox representatives at the press conference did not know how to position themselves, as they were unaware that their group had made such an amendment contradicting their government partners.
