Chaos in Rodalies: all trains stopped early in the morning and R3 passengers out in the open

The festive day on several lines of the Rodalies de Catalunya trains has been marred by some incidents, causing delays and forcing passengers to vacate the trains mid-journey.

Early in the morning, an act of vandalism caused the interruption of railway traffic in the Barcelona tunnels for 1 hour and 40 minutes, between 05:10 and 6:50. The events occurred at the Torrassa electrical substation.

Adif's security services have detected an alarm due to the presence of an unauthorized person inside the facilities who had stolen cable. It has been necessary to activate the security forces.

Adif staff have restored tension and since then circulation has recovered. Train frequencies have been progressively normalized. Adif will carry out an assessment of the damages and file a complaint.

The interruption has affected trains on lines R1, R2, R2Sud, R2Nord, R3 and R4, as well as medium and long-distance trains that circulate through the center of Barcelona.

On the other hand, the circulation of trains on the R3 of Rodalies de Catalunya has been interrupted this Thursday at 9.04 a.m. until almost 12 p.m. between Montcada Bifurcació and Montcada Ripollet (Barcelona) due to a lack of tension in a catenary.

The incident occurred halfway through the journey and the passengers got off the train on their own in an area that was difficult to access.

Adif technicians have repaired the incident due to lack of power supply and railway traffic on this section has been restored after almost three hours. Frequencies and schedules have been progressively recovered. During the incident, a road service had been established taking advantage of the coaches already planned for the planned railway cut that begins this Thursday between the Mollet-Santa Rosa and Figaró stations, on the same line, due to the doubling works between Paredes and the Garriga.

This incident has coincided with the start of the improvement works on line R3, which will remain closed from this Thursday until the end of January between Parets del Vallès and la Garriga (Vallès Oriental) due to "comprehensive improvement" works of this section, which includes the unfolding of the road.

The works will be carried out in a section of 18 kilometers that includes the stations of Parets del Vallès, Granollers-Canovelles, Les Franqueses del Vallès and la Garriga.

However, at first they will also affect the Mollet Santa Rosa station - the one immediately before Parets - which will remain inactive during the month of October.

The R3 connects L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelonès) with Puigcerdà (Cerdanya). The works will affect about 12,000 daily users who usually use the R3 in the affected section, according to the Ministry of Transport.

To minimize the impact of these works, Renfe has prepared several alternative bus transports for which it has allocated a total of 13 million euros.
