Cate Blanchett will receive the Donostia Award at the San Sebastian Festival

Australian actress Cate Blanchett will receive the Donostia Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival in its 72nd edition, which will be held from September 20 to 28. The organization considers that Blanchett is “one of the most relevant interpreters of contemporary cinematography.”

The festival announced this Thursday at a press conference the name of the winner of the contest's highest award, who will also star in this year's official poster, the work of graphic designer José Luis Lanzagorta based on a photograph by Gustavo Papaleo.

The Australian performer, winner of two Oscars, two Venice Volpi Cups, four Golden Globes and the Goya of Honor, will visit the San Sebastián Festival for the first time, although some of her films have been previously screened at the event, such as Babel, by Alejandro González Iñarritu (2007), and Veronica Guerin, by Joel Shumacher, who competed for the Golden Shell in 2003.

Blanchett has accumulated more than 200 recognitions and awards in a prolific career that has led him to work under the orders of great filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Terrence Malick, Steven Soderbergh, David Fincher, Ridley Scott and Woody Allen, among others.

It is the second time that the Donostia Award has gone to an Australian, since in 2013 it was received by Hugh Jackman.
