Catalonia creates a “purple network” with more than 200 actions to prevent sexist violence

The Minister for Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Tània Verge, has announced this Monday the creation of a community "purple network" for the prevention of macho violence as part of a plan that has more than 200 actions and is endowed with a budget of 43 million euros.

"To eradicate violence we must attack its social and cultural roots, and involve the entire society," said the councilor at the press conference to present the first National Plan for the Prevention of Sexist Violence in Catalonia.

For this reason, the Government is creating a network of purple points throughout the territory, made up of shops, markets, transport, neighborhood cultural and sports spaces, etc. In addition, it will promote a purple button in public transport applications and extend the system of on-demand stops on buses, and create a network of prevention references in different areas, among other actions.

In this way, Igualtat has already begun to work on training all the people who work in these spaces so that they know how to identify all forms of violence and know what steps to follow if they detect a situation of sexist violence, especially with the helpline. to these violence aimed at victims, people around them and professionals (900 900 120).

"We need everyone to be aware that they are structural problems and, therefore, the response has to be collective," commented Verge.

This plan is accompanied by a white paper to set "quality standards", a base document for all of Catalonia to move in the same direction and in which organizational and methodological guidelines are established to align preventive actions. The councilor has assured that, until now, there have been many preventive actions that are "fragmented, punctual and with a limited budget", so it was necessary to promote new actions in all areas so that they reach all groups, including the LGTBI.

The general director for the Eradication of Sexist Violence, Laia Rosich, was in charge of detailing in a press conference some of the 222 actions of this "unprecedented" plan that will represent "a turning point."

One of the most notable points is mobility. The applications of the different transports will include a purple button, which will be connected to the hotline against sexist violence, and an anonymous virtual mailbox will be created in which users will be able to contribute aspects to improve in terms of safety and accessibility. On this line, stops will be extended on demand, especially on bus routes that are not very busy.

Another key action has to do with urban planning. Laia Rosich has detailed the carrying out of exploratory marches in towns and cities to analyze municipal urban planning from a gender perspective. The objective of these tours, in which women participate, is to submit proposals to city councils so that they can intervene in public spaces and increase the perception of security.
