The interpretation of Broken and elegant , the first single from their new album Matadero 5 , which they have announced for October, was one of the intense moments of Taburete's concert last night at the Cap Roig Festival, and also a perfect summary of the content of the recital : a review of his career and a demonstration of pride for the goals achieved, in the musical field and also personally.
The band that Guillermo Willy Bárcenas and Antón Carreño founded in 2014 already has a good number of followers and a handful of emblematic songs. "I had been undergoing surgery for three days for appendicitis and the only thing I didn't want to do was miss this concert," said Bárcenas, who spread his enthusiasm to the audience from the first minute.
Their catchy, sentimental but forceful pop rock, and with well-crafted lyrics, has become the trademark of a group that also knows how to play very well the trump card of the charisma of its singer and leader. “I resist beatings, broken and elegant. And we are going to wage war until the body holds out”, proclaims Bárcenas in Broken and elegant, a declaration of principles from a group that has always been in the eye of the hurricane (the former treasurer of the PP Luis Bárcenas and the former president of the CEOE Gerardo Díaz Ferrán, who coincided in prison, are the father and grandfather, respectively, of Bárcenas and Carreño). Their origins placed them under the spotlight from the beginning, but they have been building slowly, and using social networks with good judgment, an already solid musical career with four albums and a fifth in the making, the aforementioned Matadero 5.
Caminito a Matadero is precisely the title of the tour that took them to Cap Roig last night to perform a selection from their repertoire: México DF, Kaiserslautern, Sirenas, Belerefón, El fin, Amos del piano bar, Entre tus pies or Mariposas were sung by his followers, encouraged by a band that grows live, that imprints a lot of rhythm on its performances, that has a well-rounded staging, and that is open to other musical styles. And that also has a leader, Willy Bárcenas, capable of spreading his enthusiasm to the most apathetic. He did it again last night in Cap Roig, where the audience and the stands stood up to thank with closed emotion the live delivery of Taburete and, of course, his career.
