Campuzano attributes his entry into the Govern to the "opening process" of ERC

The new Minister of Social Rights, Carles Campuzano, has assured that he has always coincided with Esquerra Republicana's "expositions on the substantive political question" in declarations to RAC1. Despite his career in Convergència Democrática de Catalunya, the new member of the Government has highlighted the "opening process" of ERC, which makes him feel comfortable and connects with his opinion of "articulating broad proposals". In addition, he has appealed to the "responsibility" of Junts to approve the budgets, but has not ruled out agreeing on them with the PSC if those of Laura Borràs choose to vote against.

Campuzano has drawn a parallel with Jordi Pujol's stage in the presidency of the Generalitat, when members of other parties were 'signed' to the Government. “Esquerra is in a process of opening up and it seems good to me”, said the former convergent deputy, who has celebrated the will of this party to “expand complicity”. President Pere Aragonès' proposal to Campuzano arrived on Friday afternoon and the former director of the Dincat association accepted the challenge the following morning. He has explained that he gave the 'yes' to be in a Government "that gives stability, tranquility and answers" and to materialize the concept of "the broad way".

In his first public appearance since his appointment as minister, Campuzano has placed "dialogue and agreement" with the Spanish government as the only way to resolve the political conflict in Catalonia. He has also given a wake-up call to the central executive: "In Madrid there is a feeling that this has already happened, but they would have to remember that the Catalan question is still open." He has also insisted on the need to give "continuity" to the dialogue table, although he has recognized that there may be short-term difficulties due to the Spanish electoral cycle.

The new minister militated for much of his political career in CDC, with whom he was a deputy in the Congress of Deputies until 2019. Later he ended up being one of the promoters of the embryo that he unleashed in the Nationalist Party of Catalonia (headed by Marta Pascal in the elections of 14F 2021).

Campuzano has defended his commitment to independence in response to Jordi Turull, who stated that the new minister was in favor of putting aside independence. "Some of us did not need the ruling of the Constitutional Court to reach the conclusions that were reached," said Campuzano, who also recalled his presidency in the youth of Convergència, which in the past declared themselves independentists.

Regarding his portfolio of the Government, the intention is that "nothing stops" and give continuity to projects that his predecessor began in Drets Socials, Violant Cervera. She has recognized, yes, that everything goes through the budgets, about which she will speak with the Minister of Economy and Hisenda Natàlia Mas in a few days. In this sense, Campuzano hopes that the accounts will be approved soon with Junts: "Giró was preparing the budgets and it would be reasonable for his parliamentary group to approve them." He has assured that he would be "little responsible" for the post-convergents to opt for the 'no'. In the event that their support does not arrive, it would be necessary to "assess other scenarios", which includes the PSC.
