Boehringer invests 13 million in its technology center in Barcelona

The German pharmaceutical group Boehringer Ingelheim has invested 13 million euros in strengthening its technology center in Sant Cugat (Barcelona), which employs 300 people, and in opening a new digital services center, which already has 40 employees.

The company directed in Spain by Peter Ploeger opened its technology center in Sant Cugat a decade ago, in 2013, and already has workers of 27 different nationalities. "It is the most important unit for the company in technological services after the center in Ingelheim am Rhein, the group's headquarters, and the one in the United States", as explained by its director, Marieta Ramos, and plans to increase its workforce by 10% additional this year.

The teams in charge of cybersecurity and network operations work from the Barcelona facilities. Boehringer also has the factory automation center of excellence there, which develops 5G industrial applications for all the group's plants, including the two in Sant Cugat; its sales center of excellence and the new digital services center "which provides worldwide coverage and has become one of the reference centers for the company".

In total, Boehringer has close to 1,600 workers in Sant Cugat, which has become one of the group's main manufacturing and innovation hubs outside of Germany.

In the city, the company has two factories, one for injectable and oral medicines and another specialized in the manufacture and packaging of respiratory medicines, in which it has invested 189.3 million euros in the last 6 years, and which manufacture medicines for All the group.
