Bizum with foreign numbers: who can use it and how to send money

Digitization makes Bizum grow unstoppably. The preferred alternative among young people, and not so much, for payments between individuals, it is a comfortable tool for day-to-day use, but sometimes it generates doubts in its use.

One of them is when one finds a mobile phone in hand while sightseeing or with friends who live abroad. Can money be sent to your accounts abroad? What if they have a number from outside of Spain? The answer is logical considering that the two main requirements to use the service are to have a bank account (IBAN) in Spain and a mobile phone number.

Bizum is an initiative of Spanish entities that at the moment is not open abroad: the banks that allow it to be used are included in this list, where it is verified that they are all Spanish. "The Bizum service is not yet available for bank accounts outside of Spain," it is explained on the official portal. Thus, the account associated with the number must be in Spain.

And what if the phone is foreign? There are no limitations here. "Bizum does not have any restrictions, so there would be no problem to make a Bizum to foreign mobiles that have a Spanish bank account associated", they inform in the application.

In short, while the account has to be in Spain to have a Spanish identifier, the mobile phone can be foreign, it will simply be necessary for the holder to have an account in national territory.

Keep in mind, in any case, that shipments to foreign phones count as one more within the limits imposed on the service. Currently, the minimum amount of an operation in Bizum is 0.50 euros, with a maximum of 1,000. In a month, a client can receive a maximum of 60 operations. It is also the maximum number of operations you can do in a month -between receiving and sending-. In one day, you can send a maximum of 2,000 euros and receive another 2,000.

These figures may vary depending on the entity, which can establish its own limits.
