Bicimad registers its historical daily record with 18,553 trips

The acting mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, celebrated this Wednesday via Twitter that yesterday the historical record for the use of Bicimad was broken, with 18,553 trips.

"We always defended that any person from Madrid, wherever they lived, had the right to use Bicimad. Yesterday, after undertaking the biggest revolution in the service, we reached a historical record of users and trips. 18,553 thanks," he wrote.

If in June 2020, in the middle of the pandemic year, the maximum of 17,338 trips was reached, yesterday the figure reached 18,553 trips. The number of users is also exceeded on a daily basis, accounting for 102,624 customers, 29% more than the highest figure that existed with the old system (79,654 in October 2020).

Since the implementation of the new Bicimad began on March 7, the Madrid City Council, through the Environment and Mobility Department directed by Borja Carabante, established free trips until July 31, being the first time that General free of charge has been extended in a general and consecutive way for almost five months.

The new Bicimad is already present in the 21 districts with 4,397 new bicycles on the street and 381 bases, and it is expected to continue growing this summer until reaching 7,500 vehicles and 611 stations.

On January 24, Almeida presented the new bicycle model and recalled that the new Bicimad represents a true revolution for all Madrid residents: "We are facing the definitive commitment to the bicycle as a real alternative for sustainable mobility in our city," he assured. then the Madrid alderman.

The expansion and technological renewal of Bicimad has required an investment of 48.8 million euros, of which 30 million have come from European financing from Next Generation funds channeled through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
