Behind the walls of Balsareny Castle

Today, in this report in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos, we are located in a small town in Bages called Balsareny to see its castle.

In Balsareny, located between the highway and the Llobregat river, we can find a spectacular historical heritage. One of the things that caught my attention the most was its castle.

A good way to get there is on foot. Along the way we can see fields while, not far away, we leave the Llobregat River aside.

Once in the castle, whose origins date back to the year 951, we can see a monument declared as a cultural asset of national interest. If we focus on its characteristics, we can say that this is an example of Catalan civil Gothic style.

It is one of the few regular and homogeneous castles in central Catalonia because it was planned and built in a single construction campaign.

Currently this castle is private property although it can be visited at certain times. Finally, it should be noted that right next to the castle, we can find a Romanesque hermitage, from the 12th century, where the Verge del Castell is venerated, whose festival is celebrated on September 8.
