'Bad talent contest', a work to claim alternative futures

The young company José y sus Hermanas premieres its fourth play, Concurso de malos talentos, written by Ignacio de Antonio Antón, which can be seen between November 10 and December 4 at the Teatre Lliure de Gràcia.

Alejandro Curiel, Marta Díez, Carolina Manero, Gemma Polo and Glòria Ribera play five young people who, thanks to theater and its imaginative possibilities, propose alternative futures to current catastrophic discourses. In this way, the company directs this production to a strictly young audience, between 14 and 30 years old, that is, the Millennial and Z generations.

With the vocation to talk about the anguish of a future full of uncertainties and how this situation can be reversed from disciplines such as theater, José and his Sisters have transformed the Lliure de Gràcia into a center of low performance. In this way, the title of the work also echoes the idea that work should not be the central axis of young people's lives, especially with such poor future expectations.

“[The public] will find a humorous, sarcastic tone, but also penetrating, like a meme”, Gemma Polo commented. Thus, the work pays homage to the new forms of communication, which are the most popular method on social networks.

On the other hand, Marta Díez added that they believe that the public is going to empathize a lot with the demand to “work less, work all of us and, from here on, try to be happier”.

This is how Contest of bad talents is presented at the Teatre Lliure de Gràcia. The fourth production of José and his Sisters opens tomorrow and will run until December 4. Next, he will start a tour to the Teatros del Canal in Madrid and the Teatro Calderón in Valladolid.
