Arrested another involved in the macro-plantation of marijuana in 14 greenhouses in Almatret

The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a second person involved in the macroplantation of marijuana that has been located in an area with difficult access in Almatret, in Lleida.

The police summoned him on Thursday at the Lleida police station because they suspected that he could be responsible for the rental of the 14 greenhouses and the facility that contained the 1,820 marijuana plants and ended up arresting him. He is a 32-year-old man and along with the other detainee on Wednesday when the Mossos began the dismantling of the plantation, it is expected that he will go to court on Saturday.

The plantation was discovered thanks to the notice of some neighbors and hunters in the area. This is the first of these features to be dismantled in Ponent.

Police are investigating whether this second detainee could be one of the three people who managed to flee the plantation when officers arrived on Wednesday. At that time, it was only possible to arrest one of the alleged perpetrators of the plantation, a 44-year-old man of Albanian nationality.

Neighbors of Almatret alerted the Mossos d'Esquadra to the possibility of intensive marijuana cultivation in an isolated and difficult-to-access area around the Aiguamoll ravine, some 10 kilometers from the municipality. The police set up a device between Wednesday and Thursday that allowed them to locate a set of 14 greenhouse tunnels with 1,820 marijuana plants.

It is the first marijuana plantation to be found in professional greenhouses in the Lleida demarcation, since until now, the mossos were used to finding the typical plantations in warehouses or houses in towns, or in the middle of the forest.

About thirty agents participated on Thursday in the dismantling of the plantation and also in the search ordered by the Lleida duty court.

The plants were between 80 centimeters and 1.2 meters tall. They could have reached 2 meters and a peak at the end of September, when they were expected to harvest. The Mossos calculate that with the entire surface, more than a ton of marijuana ready for consumption could have been obtained.
