The Civil Guard has arrested at his home the father who abandoned his son and another minor on the highway after having a car accident in Valcabado (Zamora) last Monday. The children were transferred to the Virgen de la Concha Hospital and the youngest of them, aged 12, died. The man is currently in the Topas Correctional Facility.
According to the investigation of the Armed Institute, the 39-year-old man fled on foot from the accident and, when the agents found him, he tested positive for drugs and alcohol. It is also believed that he was the father of the deceased who was driving the vehicle at high speed at the time it left the road. The man was on prison leave and was driving without a license.
The two companions were taken to the Zamora hospital with serious injuries and, shortly after their arrival, the driver's son died. The detainee was also admitted to the hospital for several minor injuries and a broken rib.
The link between the man and the other under 17 who was in the vehicle is unknown.
