Apple invents a way to use its watches with one hand

When using a watch, you normally use your opposite hand to press buttons, screen or rotating crown, but designed for people who couldn't use that hand, years ago Apple invented ways for its watches to recognize gestures from the hand wearing the watch. watch like making a fist or touching two fingers so that all its functions could be accessed. Now, Apple has perfected the system—it's called Double Tap—for its new watches, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Series 9, whose advanced S9 chip allows these operations to be more agile and for everyone. With them, two hands are no longer necessary to use them.

Double Tap can be used to answer or end a phone call, play or pause music, stop a timer, snooze an alarm, take a photo of your iPhone remotely, and more complex functions such as switching to the new altitude view. from the Compass app so you can see the relative altitude of saved waypoints.

To achieve this new natural shape, two fingers touching twice, Apple has combined several technologies. The S9 chip's neural engine is key. Artificial intelligence processes data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and optical sensor that captures heart rate data so that it detects small changes in blood circulation when you move your fingers. The result looks like magic and Apple has explained that the gesture will be available through an update to the watchOS 10 operating system starting in October.

The main changes to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 are inside. The screen now reaches an enormous brightness, 3,000 nits, which represents 50% more than in the first generation. This screen is the brightest that Apple has designed. It is seen with great clarity in full sun. The apple company has integrated Siri into the device so that fitness and health consultations do not use external connections and, therefore, completely preserve privacy. Its price in Spain is 899 euros.

The Apple Watch Series 9 stands out for carrying that same S9 encapsulated chip and a screen that reaches a brightness of 2,000 nits, double what the previous generation achieved. It can use features like Double Tap and, like the company's other products, it adds a new ultra-wideband chip called U2 that makes the search functions of another device very precise. Prices for the Series 9 start at 449 euros in Spain.

Apple assures that "certain case and strap combinations of the Apple Watch Ultra 2, the Apple Watch SE and the new Apple Watch Series 9 become Apple's first carbon-neutral products." The statement, which is part of the company's plan to achieve neutrality in CO2 emissions by 2030, is based on the reduction of emissions from the three main sources of greenhouse gases: materials, electricity and transportation. . The Californian company ensures that "the small amount of remaining waste is offset with high-quality carbon credits from sustainability projects."
