An outdated signal in the Sau swamp?

The Sau reservoir, in Osona, is at 6.5% of its capacity, when a year ago it was at 60%, which gives an exact idea of the extent to which the persistent drought in Catalonia is affecting it.

The changed landscape of the reservoir attracts visitors. And the sign that prohibits walking is striking, when, in reality, there is practically no water left and, on the other hand, a lot of land to cover on foot.

In this photographic report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia you can see images of the current state of the reservoir, with the ruins of the old town of Sant Romà clearly visible and with the desert landscape around the little water that remains in the dam.

The reservoir, inaugurated in 1962, covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the remains of which, especially the church bell tower, are visible when the dammed water level is low.

This reservoir is part of a system of three swamps (along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral) that unites the counties of Osona, in the province of Barcelona, and La Selva, in the province of Girona.

Not only is the entire Romanesque church of Sant Romà and the ruins of the town perfectly visible, but the second tower of the old mill has already been exposed.
