An illegal worker dies while installing the San Isidro booths in Madrid and his two employers are arrested

Two people were arrested on Wednesday after the death of a 45-year-old Colombian worker who died after being electrocuted in the Paseo de la Ermita del Santo, in the Carabanchel district, where the booths for the San Isidro festivities are being installed.

Specifically, those arrested are the owner of the company for which the worker worked, a man born in 1972, and his son, born in 1995. Both, of Spanish nationality, are accused of crimes of illegal hiring and reckless homicide, reports Europa Press with sources of the investigation.

The work accident occurred around 10 am at number 79 Paseo de la Ermita del Santo when, for reasons that are being investigated, a 45-year-old Colombian man was electrocuted to death.

In this enclave, the booths are being installed to celebrate the festivities of the patron saint of the capital, on the next 15th. The deceased was illegally employed in its assembly, according to the first indications collected in the place.

Sanitary workers from Samur-Civil Protection who have gone to the place have certified the death, without the possibility of doing anything for the life of the worker upon arrival at the place, sources from Madrid Emergencies have an impact.

Members of the Labor Accidents Unit of the Judicial Police of the Municipal Police of Madrid have taken charge of the investigation.

The mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, who has conveyed his condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the deceased, pointed out that "it is premature to speak exactly of the cause of death" of this person, and confirmed that the Police are working in order to "be able to definitively clarify what has happened", he pointed out immediately.
