The monitoring team of the 'Lynx Connect' project for the reintroduction of the lynx in the Region of Murcia has learned of the discovery of a specimen of Iberian lynx on the A-92 highway, which connects the Region of Murcia with Seville, near the Granada municipality of Guadix, reported in a statement.

The body corresponds to a male, called 'Uri', and is one of the ten Iberian lynx released this year in the area of the Lorca Highlands (Murcia).

The animal was in the area doing the traditional reconnaissance of the environment to consolidate its settlement.

Environmental agents from the Junta de Andalucía traveled to the area, proceeding to remove the body and subsequently transfer it to the Endangered Species Recovery Center in Malaga to perform a necropsy and determine the causes of death.

The Region of Murcia joined the lynx recovery project in 2012. In September 2020, the LIFE Lynxconnect project began with a total budget of 18.7 million euros, one of which corresponds to investment in the Region of Murcia. In December 2022, the reintroduction area of the Iberian lynx was approved in the Lorca Highlands, where the specimens have been released.
