An 88-year-old man stabs his wife to death and commits suicide in A Coruña

The investigation by the Civil Guard into the death of two elderly people in Sigüeiro (Oroso, A Coruña) indicates that it is a case of sexist violence, in which the man allegedly murdered his wife and subsequently committed suicide, they have informed EFE sources of the case.

The bodies belong to an 88-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman. A relative found them this Friday morning, already deceased, upon entering the house, located on Castaños Street.

Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 learned of the events at around 11.15 am and, in turn, this service alerted the 112 center to request the intervention of law enforcement.

061 sent a basic life support ambulance with a Primary Care team to the scene, but health professionals could only confirm the death of the two people.

The Civil Guard agents confirmed that the deceased had "signs of violence", which is why they requested the presence of Judicial Police personnel, who have taken charge of the investigation. The investigators verified that there were no signs of the presence of third parties in the home or that any of the accesses had been forced.

The main hypothesis became gender violence, which remained the only line of investigation after the removal of the bodies and their first examination. The Civil Guard points out that the man killed the woman with a knife and later committed suicide. The deceased are a couple of octogenarians, she with reduced mobility for years.

If the sexist nature of this crime is confirmed, the total number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far this year would rise to 55, 1,237 since 2003.
