Amazing trip to Cueva de los Verdes

Doing the course Lanzarote, the island of thousands of colors, with the geologist David Rabadà, I was able to capture this photographic report of the Cueva de los Verdes for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

The tunnel formed by the Corona Volcano is one of the most extensive and interesting on the planet. Along its route there are at least 16 jameos (in the Canary Islands, a hollow or natural cave produced by the collapse of the roof of a volcanic lava tube).

Visually it is wonderful, with the mixture of green tones and natural colors that the volcanic material gives us in this Cueva de los Verdes located in the Malpaís de la Corona.

The more than 6 km of gallery extends from the crater of the volcano until it enters the sea in a 1.5 km underwater section, known as the Atlántida Tunnel, part of which is visited when entering the Cueva de los Verdes.

The Malpaís de La Corona is an 18 km2 area created by the eruption of the volcano that bears the same name. It is located between the hamlet of Órsola and the small port of Arrieta, covering a good part of the northeastern end of the island of Lanzarote. This space was, together with the La Corona volcano, declared a Natural Park.
