Aitana Bonmatí, the first Spanish woman to win a Laureus award

Last night, Aitana Bonmatí (26) added to her Ballon d'Or and the last World Cup another award of international magnetism: she collected the Laureus award for the best female athlete, an award that no Spaniard had ever achieved, nor had Garbiñe Muguruza (candidate in the 2018) nor Alexia Putellas (applicant in 2022 and 2023).

Along with Bonmatí, Novak Djokovic (best athlete), Simone Biles (best comeback), Jude Bellingham (revelation) and the Spanish women's soccer team also received applause at the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid.

Throughout the ceremony, led by Andy Garcia, the academy distinguished the Rafa Nadal Foundation for its work for social good.

Figures of the magnitude of Usain Bolt, Lindsey Vonn, Tom Brady and Carlos Alcaraz paraded along the red carpet.
