Special Police Intervention Group (GEIP). This is the name that will be given to the new reinforcement and intervention unit of the Badalona Urban Guard that the municipal government will launch in the coming weeks and that will take over from the Omega Unit.
The Government plans to provide this new unit with 14 agents and two commanders who will be distributed in two shifts. From Monday to Thursday the hours will be from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., while on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of holidays the shift will cover the time slot from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
The mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, has stated that "this new unit will take over from Omega, which has carried out work highly valued by citizens." This government, adds the mayor, "has from day one a commitment to the recovery of citizen security and to the improvement of personnel and material resources for the Urban Police."
In this sense, Albiol has recalled the new open call for the incorporation of 46 new agents and the investment of 1.5 million euros for the comprehensive remodeling of the police station of the Urban Guard in the Turó d'en Caritg.
Among other functions, within the powers of the local police, the Special Police Intervention Group (GEIP) will be developed in situations of criminal acts or in situations of incivility, especially when they occur in leisure areas or in situations of concentrations of people in public spaces to guarantee neighborhood coexistence.
The Special Police Intervention Group is especially prepared to act quickly and support the Urban Guard patrols in cases that exceed their operational capacity and in emergency situations, as well as to act in coordination with other police forces in large-scale operations. . In addition, it will also carry out special traffic devices, carry out controls and inspections in establishments that cause problems and carry out administrative police tasks.
The new unit will have its own graphic image in which its new logo will stand out with an image that simulates a demon, as a reference to one of the main characteristic symbols of Badalona.
