One of the participants in the paragliding event that was held this morning in Benidorm has been injured by polytrauma after running into a building and falling on Langreo street in the city. According to sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Center, the event occurred around 12:45 p.m.

A SAMU unit and a Basic Life Support (SVB) unit have moved to the place. The SAMU medical team has assisted the man, whose age is unknown, due to polytrauma. After the assistance, the injured man was transferred to the Marina Baixa hospital in La Vila Joiosa in the advanced life support ambulance.

Sources from the organization have indicated that it was the British jumper Rich Mall who "gave the scare" on the first day of the World Base Jumping Championship by running into a building, although "he was able to save the situation without suffering damage".

The test is being held from the Gran Hotel Bali, a 56-storey and 186-meter high hotel, from where the competitors jump with the intention of landing on a target. Jumpers score higher the closer they land to the center of the target, located in the hotel garden, and if the parachute, which must open at a specific time, does not rotate during the jump.

The rest of the qualifying rounds and exhibition jumps, in which two skydivers jumped at the same time, even from the highest columns of the building performing acrobatics, have passed normally.

This Wednesday the qualifying rounds and the exhibition jumps have been held and this Thursday the semifinals and the grand final of the event will be held, in which 22 jumpers will take part. three of them Spanish.

The British vaulter Thomas Berryman won this Thursday ahead of the Spanish Abraham Hernández and the American Justin Bietler, second and third, respectively, in a competition in which 22 jumpers have taken part.
