A security operator arrested for stealing 110,000 euros from a bank safe

A 38-year-old man, a security systems installation technician, has been arrested for the theft of 110,000 euros from the safe of a bank in Malaga, taking advantage of the fact that the recording cameras had been disabled during some work that he himself carried out.

The arrested person worked as a freelancer for a subcontracted company that had to carry out a security level migration of the bank office, that is, a restructuring of recording cameras and servers and storage equipment.

The suspect would have taken advantage of these works to carry out the assault outside of public service hours and steal 110,000 euros from the safe, as reported this Tuesday by the National Police, which has detailed that the events occurred in mid-January. It was then that a representative of the bank reported the theft of money from the safe compartment, located in an area with restricted access and, therefore, not accessible to other employees.

The investigators detected that “manipulations had been carried out in the recording equipment and in the placement of the cameras” and that the theft coincided precisely with the fact that the entity was in the midst of transforming its security systems.

The agents were closing in on the main suspect, the technician in charge of these works, who, some time ago, had already carried out similar work, at the level of security systems, in the same offices, so he knew the facilities perfectly.

The worker had taken advantage of the fact that the cameras had been temporarily disabled, during the security level migration process, to access the safe, in just a few minutes, and operate on its lock, obtaining the loot.

At the suspect's home, the agents seized 1,355 euros in cash and four vehicles, as well as documentation and computer equipment. The case is in the hands of the Investigative Court number 6 of Malaga.
