A scientific organization is chained to the Cathedral of Seville in defense of Doñana

The protest of Activists of Scientific Rebellion, who have chained themselves this Sunday to the cathedral of Seville to denounce the "ecocide" that the approval of the proposed Law on irrigation management of the Northern Crown entails for the Doñana National Park, has concluded when the firemen have broken the padlocks, and the national police have identified them.

Some fifteen people took part in the action, which began around 3:00 p.m. and ended approximately an hour later, four of whom chained themselves by their necks to the fences of the cathedral and also carried colored flares and two banners, on one of which could be read, "Doñana resists", and on the other, "In the face of the climate emergency: action plan now!".

The objective of the action has been "to denounce the ecocide that is intended to be carried out in Doñana and the climate inaction on the part of our governments."

In addition, they have demanded "an immediate action plan, in accordance with the recommendations of science and with the participation of the entire society, through participatory democracy tools, such as binding citizen assemblies."

Rebelión Científica (Scientist Rebellion) was founded in 2020 to urge the scientific and academic community to join nonviolent civil resistance in the face of the climate crisis.
