A national police officer is injured by a gunshot due to an accidental shooting by a colleague

A National Police agent has been shot in the leg due to an accidental shot fired by a colleague in an operation against drug trafficking in Cabanes (Castellón) and is admitted and stable at the General Hospital of Castellón.

As sources from the National Police have informed EFE, the incident occurred during the course of that operation and, they have insisted, it was accidental.

The Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, explained that it occurred within the framework of a joint operation of the National Police and the Civil Guard in which there was a seizure of marijuana and the arrest of four people - two by the National Police and two by the Civil Guard.

Bernabé has described the events as a "regrettable incident" and has wished a speedy recovery for the agent who, he has pointed out, has been injured in the leg and his life is not in danger.

Sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU) received the notification at 9:10 a.m. this Wednesday to assist the agent injured by a firearm.

They have mobilized an Urgent Medical Assistance Service Unit (SAMU) whose medical team has assisted the police officer, who had a gunshot wound to the leg and has been transferred to the hospital.

The Civil Guard has explained that a patrol from this body has gone to the scene and its agents have helped the injured man by applying a tourniquet until the arrival of the medical personnel.

For his part, Jorge Martí, senior chief of the National Police Corps, has indicated that an investigation has been opened to clarify the facts and "see what has gone wrong" and has pointed out that incidents of this type can occur in interventions "with high tension levels, strong speed to surprise the criminal".
