This past morning from Saturday to Sunday, Metropolitan Transport of Barcelona (TMB) suffered an act of vandalism, orchestrated by almost 70 people, who painted two different trains on Lines 4 and 2 of the Barcelona metro.
The incident has generated stoppages of 10 minutes on both lines and will require, as reported by TMB in a statement, an economic cost to clean and repair the damage caused.
The attack occurred before 1 in the morning at the Jaume I station, on L4, where around 70 vandals entered (some of them validating and others jumping the validation line) and accessed the train to Passeig de Gràcia while During the journey they vandalized the interior of the train. Once in Passeig de Gràcia they painted the outside of the train from the tracks, forcing the metro line to stop, which provided a partial service for approximately 10 minutes, without operation between Barceloneta and Verdaguer.
Later, the same group of people accessed the L2 metro at the Passeig de Gràcia station, where they destroyed a second train, also causing 10-minute stops between the Universitat and Sagrada Familia.
From TMB they have regretted "the inconvenience caused to our users by the two service stops on lines 4 and 2 caused by this attack." They have reported that the subway security guards have allowed "one of the vandals to be identified." In addition, TMB will present a complaint about the facts.
The president of TMB, Laia Bonet, has condemned these attacks "which represent harm to citizens in terms of service but also an intolerable economic cost of public money." In addition, she has announced that TMB "is already implementing new measures to try to minimize the maximum these attacks and their consequences."
