A failure in Iberia's systems causes delays and cancellation of flights

A connectivity failure in Iberia's systems has caused delays at several airports and the cancellation of five flights this Saturday, all of them originating in Madrid, sources from the airline have confirmed to EFE.

The five canceled flights were scheduled to depart from Madrid and destination in Jerez, Vigo, Barcelona, London and Lisbon. Iberia assures that it is trying to relocate all affected passengers on flights this Saturday.

A connectivity problem in Iberia's systems -not a drop in the billing and boarding service, as the airline had initially pointed out- is forcing check-in and boarding at the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas airport to be done by hand, which is causing delays at various airports.

Specifically, the flights scheduled for this morning, until approximately 11:30 a.m., have left an average of one hour late, a delay that is spreading to other flights despite the fact that Iberia has reinforced the check-in and baggage staff.

On its Twitter account, Iberia has apologized to customers and has assured that it is working to ensure that all passengers fly this Saturday.

Iberia and Iberia Express plan to operate more than 245 flights this Saturday, three of which have been canceled this morning and another two for this afternoon, a total of five. 81 percent of affected customers have been offered a travel alternative for today, with the rest able to fly tomorrow.

The entire operation with the US and Latin America that takes place between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. has also been able to be carried out as planned, says the airline.
