150 workers will clean the beaches of the Barcelona metropolitan area in Sant Joan

Celebrating the Sant Joan festival on the beach is a classic. But hours later, or even less on some occasions, the bathers arrive and the sandbanks must be decent. 150 workers will be in charge of this on the coast of the Catalan capital, as explained on Tuesday by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) in a statement.

The coordinated device between the AMB and the eight metropolitan councils of the coast will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end at 9:30 a.m. "The objective of this intensive and concentrated schedule is to allow the festival to be held without time restrictions and, at the same time, to have the beaches in good condition first thing in the morning of the following day," reported the AMB.

Beyond human resources, the device will have resources in the form of machinery. For example, three compactor trucks will be used to collect waste, eight sieves, three quads and 36 4x4 vehicles. Also 3 backhoes and two all terrain trucks. In addition, 50 auxiliary waste containers will be installed.

It will not be an easy task. In fact, in some sandy areas of Montgat, in the northern half of Badalona and in some points of El Prat de Llobregat "it will not be possible to do mechanical cleaning with a sieve due to the narrowness of the beaches caused by the regression of the sand".

The AMB has recalled that it is forbidden to make bonfires on the beaches. It also recommends not using glass containers. Sant Joan arrives this year in a situation of drought, which also implies restrictions on the use of water on the beaches, with showers prohibited.
