A 13-year-old boy has died and four other people have been injured after a man attacked several people with a sword near a tube station in the Hainault area of east London on Tuesday, police reported.
Of the four injured, two are police officers, who are hospitalized and had to undergo surgery, although their lives are not in danger, while the other two people are also admitted to a health center but not seriously.
A 36-year-old man was arrested for the incident, which occurred early today - around 06:00 GMT - but British law enforcement agencies have stated that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack and that they are not It is terrorist in nature.
London Metropolitan Police (Met) Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell told media that law enforcement and emergency services were deployed to treat several victims in Hainault.
"It is with great sadness that I confirm that one of those injured in the incident, a 13-year-old boy, has died from these injuries. He was taken to hospital after being stabbed and sadly died shortly afterwards. The boy's family has the support, first, from my local agents and now from some specialized agents," he added.
Emergency services responded to the scene after receiving a call to warn that a car had crashed into a house in the Thurlow Garden area of Hainault.
A video taken by a citizen and broadcast by the British media showed the alleged perpetrator of the attack, a man with a beard and wearing an ocher hooded sweatshirt.
In the images, the individual was seen walking with a large sword (the style of a Japanese katana) in his hand.
"This must have been a terrifying incident for those involved. I know the community will be shocked and alarmed," Deputy Commissioner Ade Adelekan said in a statement.
The Met has also ruled out that there is "any threat" to the public as a result of the attack.
After the incident, the British Home Secretary, James Cleverly, had asked through the social network
"My thoughts are with those affected and I thank the emergency services," Cleverly wrote.
