Twitter silences Zuckerberg's social network: blocks links that redirect to Threads

Twitter is trying to downplay the success of Threads, Meta's new microblogging social network that has surpassed 100 million users in less than five days on the market, according to Quiver Quantitative data. First came the threat from Elon Musk, who is threatening to sue Mark Zuckerberg's new platform for appropriating the company's trade secrets and intellectual property.

The CEO of Twitter, Linda Yaccarino, has also valued her platform, claiming that "there is only one Twitter". And now the blue bird's social network has decided to block the links that redirect to Threads, according to the specialized media TechCrunch.

Several users have reported that they have not been able to access Threads content from Twitter, since when entering 'url:threads.net' in the search field of the platform, it is reported that there are "no results" for it. It should be remembered that this search engine would get any tweet with links to the specified website. Surprisingly, based on the results, there are none.

Twitter has not ruled on this practice, detected by technology specialists and users. Nor is it clear from what moment these links that redirect the tweeter to Threads, Meta's new microblogging social network, began to be censored.

It is not the first time that Twitter has resorted to this practice since the arrival of Elon Musk. It also suspended the account of Mastodon, the open source social network and direct competitor. "Suspended account. Twitter suspends accounts that break the Rules,” he noted. And he didn't give much more explanation.

The battle between Twitter and Threads has only just begun. In less than five days on the market, Meta's new social network has surpassed one hundred million users in less than five days on the market, according to data from Quiver Quantitative, making it the fastest growing platform in history. . And it has not yet reached Europe.

At first glance, Threads looks like a copy of Twitter where there are posts (photos, videos of up to five minutes and post texts of up to five hundred characters) and you can interact with them in three ways: liking them, reposting them and commenting.

There are also differences. For example, Zuckerberg plans to adopt the decentralized ActivityPub protocol, the same one used by Mastodon. The result would be a hybrid between the two.

Elon Musk has not liked the idea of the CEO of Meta at all. The tweeter chief has assured "Zuckerberg is a cuckold." The second has not hesitated to troll him on social networks, following his impulsive style. And it does not seem that it will be the only disagreement between the two responsible.
