Summer Game Fest 2023 Recap: Top Trailers and Announcements

The inaugural presentation of the Summer Game Fest, held last night at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, has served to learn about some of the new video games that are in development for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC.

The event organized by Canadian journalist and producer Geoff Keighley is intended to replace the traditional E3 fair, but has failed to meet expectations due to a lack of announcements and high-impact surprises. The most prominent title has been Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which has also been responsible for putting an end to the presentation with the announcement of its release date and a new trailer.

Ubisoft is working on the return of this mythical franchise that emerged in the late 80s. The new installment will be called Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, it will recover the 2D action of the original title and it will go on sale on January 18.

The new installment of the wild fighting game created by designer Ed Boon has been shown in action for the first time. The possibility of fighting in pairs and combining characters will be one of its main novelties.

One of the surprises of the Summer Game Fest has been this new Sonic game, which will return to the origins of the SEGA mascot. In addition to the classic 2D perspective of the Mega Drive times, the title will feature a large part of the characters that accompanied the blue hedgehog in his first adventures. A narrative adventure set in the depths of the North Sea during the 70s. Parallel Studio is in charge of its development and has the support of Quantic Dream (Detroit: Become Human), which acts as a producer. It already has a release date: next August 29.

New from the Japanese team Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios is this prequel to Yakuza 7, which will put players back in the shoes of the charismatic Kiryu Kazuma. It will hit stores on November 9 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.

The announcement of the release date of this long-awaited title developed by the Japanese Square Enix has been the final surprise of the Summer Game Fest event.
