Spotify will use artificial intelligence to dub podcasts into Spanish

The Swedish music platform Spotify announced this Monday that it will begin testing a program that uses artificial intelligence to translate podcasts from English to other languages, including Spanish, all with the original voice.

The new tool uses OpenAI's voice generation technology to copy the speaker's original style and achieve an experience "that sounds more personal and natural than traditional dubbing," the company explained in a statement.

The initial project, which will also translate the voices into French and German, includes agreements with content creators such as Dax Shepard, Monica Padman, Lex Fridman, Bill Simmons and Steven Bartlett for a select number of episodes already in the catalog and other future releases.

Spotify also mentioned that it plans to include other shows, including The Ringer's "The Rewatchables" and Trevor Noah's new podcast.

"Adjusting to the creator's own voice, Voice Translation gives listeners around the world the power to discover and be inspired by new podcasters more authentically than before," the Swedish firm said in a statement.

The episodes will be available in the coming days worldwide for "premium" and "free" users of the platform.
